How To Conquer The Dreaded College Application Essay It is in these times that you have to pull out the big guns, by which I mean media that will pull you in, in spite of yourself; think a nail-biting mystery or lurid reality TV show. As a tween, I really mastered the whole angst thing. It was also at this point I realized there must be a great number of people in the world who have these same questions but who are not in a comfortable position to ask them. This 2015 file photo shows Alexa Kidwell, junior, working on an essay in an AVID class at Centaurus High School in Lafayette. Elysse Catino has been a counselor at Washington-Lee since 2011. in Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University. Prior to joining the W-L Counseling Department, Elysse worked in human resources. Even in the face of this very difficult condition you have chosen life to the fullest. May you be blessed in all your endeavours and eventually conquer this beast. I will say though, on a more serious note, that a lot of my success has been luck. I have the two most supportive parents, and on top of that, a brilliant and caring aunt who has been through this swamp before and now acts as my guiding light. They have all supported me so completely and without them, I probably wouldn’t have made it through high school. I have also been fortunate to have health insurance, which everyone should have access to, but the disturbing fact remains that not everyone does. Find people, places , or things that bring you comfort. If you can achieve this in settings such as school, work, and home you are basically going to slaughter this depression. The true evil of depression is in the cyclical thinking it inspires. A really ruthless depressive episode can leave you in a terrible spiral of negative thinking with no clear way out. Currently, Elysse is a faculty advisor to our CONNECT Mentors and Sources of Strength peer leaders. When she is not at W-L, she can be found enjoying the outdoors, spending time with her daughter, and is an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College. This quickly developed into a more specific love for the study of space, which eventually led me to astrophysics and cosmology. I have always loved learning about and seeing the wondrous complexity of the natural world. OK, now I’m bored, not because the ideas are unimportant, but because it is too abstract. In the summer of 2015, I attended the Physics of Atomic Nuclei program at Notre Dame, a Catholic college. I was one of the only Catholics in the camp, and one fellow camper in particular had a lot of amazing questions about what the Church says concerning this or that scientific discovery. I had never been asked these questions before, and, though granted some of them were extremely deep, I was slightly disturbed to find that I could not answer some of them. This prompted me to further explore the relationship between the Church and science.
